The Competencies Project
Practical Life for Adults
Stuck in a job?
No real friends?
Trouble making decisions?
Failure to launch?
Quarter-life crisis?
Adulting can be tough. But there’s help.
The Competencies Project offers a unique and much-needed approach to developing the practical life skills young adults crave today. Competencies describes concrete, accessible real-world activities that work – and they work because they indirectly and successfully build traits like self-esteem, critical thinking, communication, and a sense of purpose. And those are the traits that make life manageable and, yes, fun.
Most books on ‘adulting’ prescribe the qualities you need – perseverance, direction, social skills, focus – or offer scripts for accomplishing daily tasks – prepare for a job interview, fix a toilet, separate the laundry. But these don’t really build your inner competencies. Just how do you “get” perseverance or leadership, anyway – at the virtues store? And those “how-to” guides: do you really want to get out an instruction manual for every life task? Neither of those approaches offers the inner development we so need to go forth with confidence.
Founded in neuroscience and Montessori principles of learning, The Competencies Project helps build your brain and body architecture so you can do everything you want and need to do – now and into the future. The proposed activities provide both a foundation and a springboard to move forward – wherever life takes you.
